COLLABORATION:  To build strong collaborations between all state agencies and institutions of higher learning.

All West Virginians have the right to equal employment opportunities regardless of race, religion, color, national origin, ancestry, sex, age, disability, or other legally-recognized protected status.  It is our goal to assist state agencies in a joint effort to maintain a workplace free of discrimination and to ensure equal employment opportunities for everyone.  The State of West Virginia is firmly committed to this policy and ensuring its adherence is the principal mission of the State EEO office.

Affirmative action is an active effort to improve employment access and advancement opportunities for groups who have historically suffered discrimination in the workplace. Affirmative action programs remain essential to ensuring equal access to all employees at all levels of employment. A successful affirmative action program must entail positive, proactive, and preemptive steps by managers, supervisors, and all employees. The State EEO office will strive to maintain an affirmative action program that provides qualified persons full access to workplace opportunities without compromising relevant and valid job or educational qualifications.
